Untethered Jailbreak Apple TV 2G 4.2.1 on Windows with Greenpois0n RC6 [How to Guide]

Greenpois0n RC6 is released recently by Chronic Dev Team, with this update users can untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 and this version also support for an untethered jailbreak for Apple TV 2G. We have already posted How to Guides for Windows and Mac users jailbreak untethered on iOS 4.2.1 for (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, 3G, 4G.

Chronic Dev Team has fixed most of the bugs which were found in the last version and this version of GreenPois0n RC6 has major support for untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 for Apple TV 2G. Here is the step by step guide to jailbreak Apple TV 2G.

Always proceed at your own risk. We will not be responsible if anything goes wrong.

1. Download Greenpois0n RC6 or direct link here.

2. Unzip the installer and Run it.

3. A pop up message will come and will ask if you are jailbreaking an Apple TV, click on Yes.

4. Now you can follow the instructions of the software that will put your device into DFU mode.

Important Notes:

• Switch on the power and insert USB cables into Apple TV
• Plug USB cable into your computer
• old down the MENU and DOWN buttons on your Apple TV Remote for about 7 seconds, until the light flashes quickly.
• Hold down the MENU and PLAY buttons for 7 seconds until the light flashes very fast.

5. Press Jailbreak Now in GreenPois0n
6. GreenPois0n will complete the jailbreak process.
7. When GreenPois0n will finish the process, Press Quit.

IMPORTANT – Do not unplug Apple TV 2G for not less than 40 seconds to a minute, once the Jailbreaking process is complete.

8. Remove USB Cable, and plug in HDMI Cable
9. Now browse to the Inject Software option under GreenPois0n heading on Apple TV.

10. Select Install Cydia+SSH

11. Let the device finish the process, as it will finish the process, restart AppleTV when prompted.

Update: The Chronic Dev-Team has just released a small update to Greenpois0n and the users can now fix bugs which were found for iBooks and the Apple TV 2G Wi-Fi. You can download the latest version GreenPois0n RC 6.1 here. You can use it on the earlier versions.

If you want to backup iOS SHSH blobs locally, you can use a tool called TinyUmbrella to backup your iOS  SHSH blobs so that you can use it to jailbreak when you upgrade to a newer version of iOS . To backup your SHSH blobs download TinyUmbrella and run it, connect your idevice to the computer and click on the “Save My SHSH” button to start the backup process.

So  if you would like to test iOS 4.3 you should create a backup of the iOS 4.2.1 SHSH Blobs so that you can restore the device in future or use it for jailbreaking iOS 4.3.
